Choosing the Perfect Destination Wedding Location

So you’ve decided to have a destination wedding – Congratulations! There are plenty of great reasons why couples choose destination weddings, and the next step is to select where you are going to host your event to make the most of this special occasion. Whether you are choosing from the Caribbean or Mexico, there are hundreds of resorts to choose from for your perfect destination wedding.

Once you see the number of options you have, it can be overwhelming to pick the perfect destination wedding location. Before you make your selection, make sure that you take all of your requirements into account. Read on for a few things to consider that will help you figure out how to choose the perfect destination wedding location.

Determine Your Budget

Before you get too far into the planning process for your destination wedding, decide on your budget. It pays to make sure you are shopping within your budget from the outset, so that you don’t get your mind set on a destination that is outside of your price range. Both the Caribbean and Mexico offer resorts for almost any budget.

You should also be taking your guests’ budgets into account as well. If the price per person is too high, you may lose some of your guest list. Make sure to factor in whether you are covering part of your guests food, accommodations, or travel.

Using a dedicated travel agent, who specializes in destination weddings, can actually help you stay within your budget. Our team of experts have first-hand experience and connections with top resorts, which can make the process much easier.

Match Your Style

The perfect destination wedding location will match you and your partner’s style, and will be able to accommodate the ceremony you have in mind. Whether you want to get married on the beach at sunset in the Dominican Republic, or in a gazebo with panoramic ocean views in Cancun, there is a resort that will be able to make your vision a reality.

So many options! We can help your find the perfect location to match your style…

Check out some of our resort recaps for Mexico and the Caribbean to see what catches your attention. By viewing a few short summaries, you will be able to get a feel for what each resort can offer.

We also have preferred vendors that will travel to the Caribbean and Mexico and will make sure every detail is taken care of. Our preferred wedding planners will make sure your style is taken into account in every step on the ceremony planning process and our photographers will be ready to capture it all.

Location, Location, Location

To help narrow down your search, think about the travel distance involved for both you and your guests. Destination Weddings that are easy to reach will be better attended than ones that require multiple stop overs or long expensive flights. Some of our favorite destinations for weddings are Punta Cana, Turks & Caicos, Cancun, Los Cabos, and Jamaica.

Attendance

Deciding on your guest list can be a tough process, especially when it comes to destination weddings. You are asking for a big commitment from people to travel to Mexico or the Caribbean, and a number of potential guests may decline due to budget or travel constraints. However, the fewer attendees that you are expecting, the more flexible you can be with the location.

Your dedicated travel agent will make sure your resort can block the appropriate number of rooms for you, and that they have the rooms for your chosen dates.

You should also decide early on whether you are expecting children to attend your destination wedding so that you can plan for a kid friendly venue. Many family-friendly all-inclusive resorts even offer childcare services if needed.

Consider how many guests you would like to attend when choosing your location. If you would like more guests to attend, pick a location that is easier to get to and within guests’ budgets.

Activities

Give your guests the opportunity to make memories during your Destination Wedding and check a few items off their bucket list at the same time.  Remember that you will be spending anywhere from 4-7 days with your guests, so it’s important to line up a few solo and group excursions.

If you and your group are adventurous, get some ideas for some out of the ordinary activities in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, and St. Lucia.

If you have a specific requirement for your ceremony (fire dancers, anyone?) make sure that your venue can accommodate it.
