Why we love JAMAICA…
Easy to get to!
Just a quick flight from most major East Coast airports.
World-class all-inclusive resorts
Jamaica features some of the top resorts and definitely has one perfect for your friends and family. Or, if it's an adult only celebration, there are some great ones to choose from!
The beaches
Jamaica has more than 700 white and gold-sand coastlines, including Seven Mile Beach in Negril and Doctor’s Cave Beach in Montego Bay.
Reggae music
You can’t beat having your wedding at a destination that Bob Marley once called home!
The drinks
Your guests won’t need to settle for mediocre local drinks when you have a wedding in Jamaica. It is the home Jamaican Rum, Red Stripe beer, and Blue Mountain coffee (LOVE!).
Spectacular waterfalls
Visiting Dunn’s River Falls is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that your guests won’t forget.
Location
Jamaica is situated in the Caribbean Sean and spans 4,240 square miles. It lies about 90 miles south of Cuba and 134 miles from the Cayman Islands.
Climate
Jamaica’s high season is from December to April, which is also when hotels charge their highest prices. However, the climate is tropical and hot all year (ranging from mid-70s to the high 80s all year-round). There is little difference in temperature between the winter and summer. If you can plan your wedding outside of the high season, you and your guests might find the resorts less crowded and can take advantage of better pricing.
Top Excursions
Visit Dunn’s River Falls
You can’t go to Jamaica and not see the 180 feet high and 600 feet long Dunn’s River waterfalls in Ocho Rios. The waterfalls are terraced like giant natural stairs that you can climb.
Visit the Blue Hole
This beautiful swimming hole in Ocho Rios is surrounded by lush greenery.
Rafting on Martha Brae
A rafting trip on Martha Brae offers guests a 4-1/2 peaceful journey along a 20 mile waterway east of Montego Bay.
Take a catamaran cruise and go snorkeling
There are plenty of spots to go snorkeling in Jamaica, including Doctor’s Cave in Montego Bay, Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Runaway Bay, Devil’s Reef in Ocho Rios, and Port Royal in Kingston.
Marriage Requirements
Many couples choose to get legally married in the U.S. at their local courthouse or church and have a symbolic ceremony for their destination wedding. Typically, guests do not know that the ceremony they are witnessing at Destination Weddings are symbolic (shhh!). If you do choose to get legally married in Jamaica, you will need to have the following:
- Valid passports
- Original and certified copy of your birth certificates
- Proof of divorce if applicable (original certificate of divorce)
- Certified copy of a death certificate for widows or widowers
- No blood test is required
- Only a marriage officer licensed in Jamaica can legally marry a couple. An officiant of the couple’s choice may conduct the wedding ceremony, but a local marriage officer from Jamaica must be present to sign the marriage form and make the official marriage pronouncement. Marriage officers can also provide necessary witnesses for the ceremony.
- Processing fee JM$4000 (less than US$40)
