Indian Destination Wedding Planning Tips
Big, fat Indian destination weddings are coming back full force especially for 2022. As countries are beginning to lift restrictions and more people are getting vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus, Indian weddings are starting to shift back to larger affairs.
As the pandemic raged in 2020, many destination weddings were put on hold. Covid protocols required so many hoops to jump though that some couples opted to cancel completely and have intimate ceremonies in the states. Other couples made the choice to continue, however, pared down their guest list to accommodate with the resort's occupancy rates. We saw guest lists go from 300 down to 50 so the couple could get married on their date. While the guest list may have shrunk, the sheen of the Indian wedding hasn’t faded.
As the new year began, couples that previously cancelled or decided to wait and see what the year would bring, are now requesting dates. Resorts are seeing a tremendous boom in wedding contracts. In fact, many of the resorts that handle Indian destination weddings well don’t have availability for larger weddings in 2021 due to the demand of travel. Couples are reserving venues in 2022 so they can get their perfect date. They also really want as many of their family and friends to join in their celebration.

Celebrate your special day with friends and family by your side!
If you are considering a big, fat Indian destination wedding, here are a few suggestions –
Start early, like a year in advance if possible! It takes time to find the perfect resort that can handle the size of your guest list and be able to accommodate the many ceremonies that are a part of an Indian wedding.
Be flexible with your dates. Many Indian families use a priest to determine the best day to get married. Ask your priest for several options. If your date isn’t available, you have to quickly find another and you don’t want to waste time waiting for the priest to get back to you.
Be flexible with your resorts. There are many resorts that handle Indian weddings beautifully so if you have a specific date that you want to stick with, you may have to keep your options open when it comes to choosing a resort.
Try to gauge how many people will actually come to your destination wedding. Sometimes, overestimating your guest list will limit your resort options because they don’t have enough rooms available. If you are realistic, then you just might be able to get into your preferred venue because you’ve lessened the number of people.
The worst time to have a destination wedding is around any holiday. Prices are higher, there is less availability, less people tend to attend and it’s usually more stressful. Try to pick off-season dates to stretch your (and your guests) dollars.
