Destination(s): Italy - Venice, Florence, Lake Como and Milan
Resort(s): Venice - Sina Centurion Palace, Florence - Portrait Firenze, and Lake Como - Grand Tremezzo
Length of stay: 9 full days
Why did you choose your resort / destination for your honeymoon?
We knew we wanted to go to Europe and we decided on Italy because we could hit a number of different cities that each had their own charm and attractions and you can't beat the food!
What activities or excursions did you do?
We did a combination of general sightseeing and just walking around the cities. We really enjoyed the Secret Itineraries tour of the Doge's Palace in Venice and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
What was your most memorable moment during your honeymoon?
I wouldn't say we had one specific memorable moment because the whole trip was fabulous and each city was so different that it was like having 3 mini vacations in one large vacation. I think my husband would likely say the food though.
What advice would you give to couples planning their honeymoon to the same destination?
In Venice - I would stay on the side of the Grand Canal of St Mark's Square. The other side, where we stayed, was beyond quiet and we kept having to travel over to the other side to do anything or go to dinners. Additionally, it became very taxing when they decided to have a water taxi strike which caused us to log a few extra walking miles per day just to get across what is normally a 3-4 minute ferry ride.
Lake Como - I would not recommend going to Lake Como past the first week of October. Although the weather can surprise you and stay warm, it was quite cold and rainy when we were there, but the bigger problem is that the entire area fully shuts down. There were very few shops and restaurants that were open and we basically spent a day riding a ferry around to each little island hoping to find anything that was open.
